Bengaluru to host Centre of Excellence and Space Manufacturing Park; Move to strengthen India’s NewSpace ambitions
Bengaluru – May 8, 2025: IN-SPACe and the Government of Karnataka have signed two key Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to accelerate the state’s role in India’s space economy. The agreements include setting up a Centre of Excellence for Space Technologies in Bengaluru and a Space Manufacturing Park to drive next-gen satellite and launch vehicle production.
The MoUs were signed by Dr. Ekroop Caur, Secretary to the Government of Karnataka (Electronics, IT, BT & S&T), and Mr. Lochan Sehra, Joint Secretary, IN-SPACe, in the presence of Dr. Shalini Rajneesh, Chief Secretary, Government of Karnataka, and Dr. Pawan Goenka, Chairman, IN-SPACe.
Karnataka is already a major space-tech hub, home to ISRO HQ, DRDO labs, HAL, BEL, and a growing base of private and MSME players. These partnerships aim to bolster this ecosystem and align with the Indian Space Policy 2023 by fostering innovation, high-skill jobs, and global competitiveness.
Dr. Shalini Rajneesh said, “The MoUs with IN-SPACe mark a new chapter in Karnataka’s space journey creating a seamless talent and value chain with the regulatory support required to compete globally.”
Dr. Pawan Goenka added, “State of Karnataka has emerged as a hub for new age space start-ups and enterprises. The MoUs will bolster this ecosystem and support the state and country’s efforts in succeeding in the NewSpace era. We look forward to working shoulder-to-shoulder with the state to see more satellites, engines and deep-space technologies developed and manufactured in the state.”
As the global space sector shifts toward agile public-private collaboration, this partnership cements Karnataka’s position as a launch-pad for breakthrough NewSpace innovations. IN-SPACe continues to drive India’s space economy forward with state-led, industry-supported initiatives.
