Insights from 45,000 employees across 90+ companies reveal gender and generational trends in mental wellness engagement.
May 28, 2025 – During Mental Health Awareness Month, AI-powered health platform ekincare released its Wellbeing Index at India Inc report, offering a snapshot of mental health engagement across 45,000 employees in over 90 companies and 15 sectors.
Key Highlights:
-
Women Lead in Seeking Help: Though only 25% of the workforce, women account for over 50% of mental health consultations, with a usage rate nearly three times that of men (11.88% vs. 4.24%).
-
Gen Z Drives Change: Employees aged 19–30 show the highest engagement (9.22%), signaling a generational shift toward openness.
-
Personal Stress Dominates: Over half of 2,095 mental health cases stem from personal/emotional issues rather than work stress.
-
Healthcare Sees Higher Usage: Healthcare and Pharma sectors report elevated engagement, likely due to job-related stress.
-
Older Employees Lag Behind: Those aged 46+ show the lowest uptake (1.62%), pointing to stigma or lack of targeted outreach.
Dr. Noel Coutinho, Co-Founder and Chief Business Officer at ekincare, emphasized, “Mental health is now central to workplace wellbeing. Real progress requires not just access to services but a cultural shift led by leadership to normalize support and reduce stigma.”
The report underscores the need for culturally embedded wellness practices, proactive leadership, and age-specific engagement to ensure mental health support translates into meaningful impact.
